ESL English as a Second Language courses will be administered by the School of Continuing Studies. Up to a maximum of 12 credits of ESL courses, including academic writing courses for non-anglophones, are open if your primary language is not English and you have studied for fewer than five (5) years in an English-language secondary institution. Placement tests are required for admission to most undergraduate courses. The purpose of the test is to ensure that you take the course that is most appropriate for you and from which you can get the most benefit. There is no need to study for the test and no reason to misrepresent your ability.

Language Schools

There are a number of private English language schools with "ESL" English as a second language programs and classes. Our company ESL in Canada has placed some international students into Montreal ESL schools and they were very pleased with the school classes and activities programs. Students did need a mixture of English and French to perform all tasks equally within the city.
